The Power of Money
For better and for worse, business has a major
impact on critical social issues facing our world
today. The power to generate money is a force
that can be wielded for good, evil, and many things
in between.
Shareholder
Value
While most businesses pay lip-service to their
good-deeds in advertising, few operate with a
focus on social missions. The majority of companies
exist to maximize ‘shareholder value;’
this means to maximize their owners wealth. Unfortunately,
reality is that quest often leaves more poverty
in it’s wake: under-paid workers, unjust
payment terms, depleted natural resources. These
area few examples that often fall under the category
of ‘necessary cost-cutting measures.’
Thinking
‘Win-Lose’
Unfortunately, many businesses buy into the lie
that this paradigm is a necessary part of running
a profitable business. This falsehood reflects
ugly sides of our human nature: selfish greed.
Profits aren’t high enough—we need
more. And to get more (for us), it has to come
from somewhere. This is win-lose thinking: ‘Someone
has to lose, so that I can win.’ The sad
reality is that the ‘losers’ in this
equation usually can’t afford to lose more;
they’re usually people that already have
little power or recourse.
The Power of One Trading Co. joins
the forces of businesses that believe that no
there is no such thing as true profitability without
fairness and sustainability.
We believe in a way of doing business where EVERYONE
profits.
